Volkswagen Middle East presents the Scirocco R at the Dubai International Motor Show 2011

Dubai, UAE 10 November 2011 - Volkswagen Middle East in collaboration with its long-term Dubai partner, Al Nabooda Automobiles, is showcasing its range of models at the 12th annual Dubai International Motor Show where the new Scirocco R will take centre stage for its first preview in the Middle East.
Volkswagen is presenting a number of models from its Sedan, SUV and Sporty categories being displayed in Sheikh Saeed Hall 1 over the five days.

Commenting on the Dubai International Motor Show Stefan Mecha, Managing Director Volkswagen Middle East, said: “Our aim at this year’s show is to present a range of Volkswagen models which encompass innovative German technology and design. We are previewing the new Scirocco R at the event which is the sportiest coupé ever created by Volkswagen. As the makers of the “People’s Car” we look forward to welcoming all visitors to this year’s Dubai International Motor Show.”

As well as the highly anticipated new Scirocco R, the complete Volkswagen model line-up will feature the sporty Golf GTI, and the Golf R alongside the thrilling Polo R WRC (World Rally Championship) model and the new Amarok. In addition, Volkswagen will also showcase the latest Touareg, Tiguan “Track & Field”, “Sport & Style”, the Eos and the all-new Jetta Trendline and Comfortline.

K. Rajaram, CEO, Al Nabooda Automobiles commented: “The Dubai International Motor Show is a milestone event for 2011 and we are proud to be the host for Volkswagen. Volkswagen has always been at the core of Al Nabooda Automobiles and in collaboration with Volkswagen Middle East, we have significantly increased our presence at this year’s event by doubling the size of our stand. Al Nabooda Automobiles is committed to the Emirates with many plans for 2012 including big showroom projects in the Northern Emirates, Sharjah and Fujairah.”

2011 has been a year of translation for Volkswagen Middle East with sales success across all models: “We have enjoyed 19% growth year-to-date compared to 2010 and we have outpaced the total market growth. This is mainly due to a number of new products that we have launched including the all-new Jetta, Tiguan and Touareg, which are all on display at this year’s motor show. During 2012 we will be launching a number of new models from our sedan category, including the Passat and the Polo Sedan. These models are part of our long-term strategy for the Middle East as we see great potential in this region.” continued Mecha.

Featured product overview at the Dubai International Motor Show 2011:

The Scirocco R is the most powerful model ever built in this series, and it serves as the platform for race cars in the new Scirocco R-Cup. The four-seat sports car is ideal as a dynamic performer and an economical companion for the roads of everyday life as well as for side trips on the circuit track. Always aboard as standard equipment, the XDS transverse differential lock on the front axle, delivers optimal traction and pure driving fun.

The coupé is an impressive performance package with a brilliant engine and running gear, an independent look and even more exclusive features. A turbo four-cylinder TSI is used in the new Scirocco R as in the racing versions of the Scirocco R-Cup. This model has very high power and torque performance with significantly reduced fuel consumption. Just 8.1 litres of super unleaded flow to the combustion chambers per 100 kilometres of combined mode driving via direct injection. That corresponds to CO2 emissions of 189 g/km – top values for a fast 250 km/h sports car. And it gets even better: When driven with the optional dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), these values are 8.0 litres and 187 g/km. The Scirocco R has the character, performance and handling of a genuine sports car, combined with the fun factor.

The all-new Jetta is present at this year’s show, the first model in Volkswagen Middle East’s sedan strategy, launched in May this year. The all-new Jetta sports a 2.0 litre petrol engine, producing 85kW/115 bhp, in addition to a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox. Larger and more comfortable, sustainable and dynamic, the designers and engineers have transformed this car down to the last details. This model has been very successful for Volkswagen Middle East since its launch, selling more units between May-September 2011 than January-September 2010.

Volkswagen’s iconic Golf is displayed at the event with the Golf R and Golf GTI on show. At 188 kW/255 bhp the Golf R is the most powerful version of the model series ever built; a high-class sports car with compact-class fuel economy. The Golf GTI now in its sixth generation, is the global market leader in the high-performance section of its class and continues to be a key model for the Middle East region.

The Polo R WRC model is part of Volkswagen’s participation in the World Rally Championship in 2013. The centerpiece of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC is a 1.6-litre TSI engine with direct injection and turbo-charging that achieves a power output of about 300 HP and a maximum torque of about 350 Newton-metres.
Also on display is one of the world’s most successful convertibles the new Eos, which has been technically perfected, visually updated and enhanced with numerous features which all add to creating a fun driving experience.

The new Tiguan models sport top equipment lines that deliver a far better dynamic performance and more stylistic precision. The SUV is the only model in its class that is available in three different lines: "Sport & Style", "Trend & Fun", and "Track & Style". The Tiguan model is very successful in the Middle East and unites the world of off-road vehicles with the comfortable dimensions of a luxury sedan and the dynamic attributes of a sports car.

In addition to the other models, the new Amarok is making its Middle East debut. This is Volkswagen’s pickup model which combines active and passive safety systems, all the features that passenger car drivers expect from Volkswagen models, yet staying true to its class being extremely rugged.
As well as presenting cars to the audience, Volkswagen Middle East is also focusing on Alternative Driving Systems including Hybrid and CNG technology and Think Blue, Volkswagen’s sustainable and energy efficient solutions.

“Volkswagen Middle East is delighted to be participating in this year’s event which I’m sure will be an exciting and fun experience for all who visit, and for all involved,” concluded Mecha.
